Transition to Wordpress!

Some exciting news about my blog! I have decided to transfer it to Wordpress.com.

I have thought about this for some time but as I don't have much free time I didn't want to spend too much time transferring the content (not that I have too much content :)) and learning about Wordpress. I feel comfortable with Blogger but anyways I finally decided to go out of my comfort zone and do the change. On top of that I purchased my site's name and got a web-hosting company.

It is not easy in the beginning. Everything is NEW and I had to install so many plug-ins and test so many themes and layout options but I think the end result is worth it! I love how my blog looks now - so polished, so clean and with pretty looking theme!

What is next for us in the first half of 2014?

We haven’t traveled yet in 2014 but I hope this will change soon. My mind is always making plans for new destinations to visit and with the spring and summer coming I hope my plans can come to realization. Here is what is next for us:

In April we are going to go on a one day trip to Skagit Valley in Washington State. Skagit Valley is famous in the Pacific Northwest for its blooming fields of tulips located throughout the valley. It is the perfect trip for the season and I am excited to “swim” in the tulip fields.

In May, for Victoria Day long weekend, we are going to do a mini road trip to Oregon. I was never too keen on visiting Oregon and specifically the city of Portland, but some recent articles I read and our friend’s stories have convinced me that maybe Oregon in worth visiting. It is close to Vancouver and it will be a cost effective trip as we won’t be buying plane tickets and renting a car, and we also won’t be using our vacation days. We will be exploring mainly the nature and the beaches.

And there comes June! I wanted to take the first two weeks as a vacation but my husband surprised me unpleasantly telling me that his accounting exams fall on the second week of June. So I took week one and three. The first week I will be flying to Europe and visiting my home country for a week. Yes, only for a week. I know it is a very short time and by the time I get used to the time difference of 10 hours, I would have to leave, but I wanted to visit another exciting destination and I didn’t want to take three weeks of vacation. I will be flying with my daughter and I have a lot of anxiety about the long flight and the two connections. I have travelled several times with her, but we were never by ourselves, and that is what is worrying me. She can be very self-willed and stubborn sometimes.
My hometown.

After I come back from Bulgaria, we are going to Mexico in the third week of June! I am very excited about that and I am looking forward to it! This can’t be said for my husband – he didn’t want to go there at all and he thinks it is dangerous. I finally convinced him that we should go and enjoy the hot weather, the beaches and the Mayan Ruins. We will be staying in a luxurious hotel in Zona Hotelera in Cancun and I hope the weather will be decent. I did my research and I know that June is the start of the rainy season, but I am hopeful it won’t be raining every day.

About me and the blog

Hello and welcome!
My name is Irina and travelling is a big passion of mine. In June 2012 I decided to create this travel blog where I can share stories about my travels, my experiences, emotions and travel tips. I hope to inspire you to travel and to show you that you don't need to have a lot of money or many weeks of vacations to be able to travel. The important thing is to have a desire to travel and to be well prepared.

My first travel outside my home country was in 1994 to Hungary and Slovakia. Later that year I visited Greece. In 1998 I visited Austria, Hungary again and Turkey. In 2002, 2003 and 2004 I had the opportunity to work and travel in the US for a total of 14 months. Since 2002 I travelled somewhere every year, some of the trips being business trips. At one point I totally caught the travel bug and I intentionally started planning a new trip every year. At first I was travelling by myself, then with my husband and in the last two years we travel with our daughter too. We live on the West Coast of Canada in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia.

I don't like to travel to the same destination more then once. There are so many beautiful and exciting places around the world and I want to visit as many as I can. Of course it happens to go to the same place several times but the last time this happened, I felt that I am wasting my time there.

I hope that many of you will find something interesting, exciting and useful in my blog and despite the different travel styles of different people, you will feel inspired to start travelling or planning your trip.

Travel inspiration #4 - San Diego

It is winter in Vancouver - it is cold, cloudy and rainy. I wish on a day like this I can be to a warm place where the sun is shining. I remember our trip to San Diego two years ago when the weather here in Vancouver was just like today and in San Diego it was 25 C and gorgeously warm and sunny!

I liked San Diego a lot - it is a city that I can see myself living in. It is big but not too big like Los Angeles or San Francisco. We visited most of the famous tourist spots - The Zoo, Balboa Park, Point Loma, La Jolla, Coronado Island. I was very impressed by the the Zoo - they had animals that I have never seen before - koalas, pandas, polar bears.
